Adult Education Program Policy and Requirements
The San Carlos Apache Tribe Adult Education Program focuses to primarily fulfill education instructional and support services for tribal members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe toward earning a GED Certificate from the Bylas and San Carlos communities.
Data Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must provide written proof of age: Birth Certificate
- Must provide assigned ID number: Social Security Card
- Must provide valid photo ID card: Tribally or State-issued
- Must provide proof of tribal enrollment of the San Carlos Apache Tribe (CIB); Non-members must be of Native American decent and provide proof of enrollment to other nationally recognized tribe
Additional data requirements for individuals 17 years of age and under:
Must submit a complete signed and notarized Parental Consent Form (request form from Director)Must submit an official “Letter of Withdrawal” statement signed by last school attended
Must submit, if married, official copy of Marriage Certificate
Program enrollment requirements:
- Must complete the GED pre-test
- Must re-take the GED pre-test for non-attendance for 3 months or more
- Studying and review shall consist of independent self-study as subject weaknesses will vary per student
- Failed status applicants must complete additional studying and review prior to any consideration for the State GED Testing
- Must re-take the GED pre-test upon completion of review in subject areas failed to determine eligibility for State GED Testing
Services:
- Scheduled classes per week shall consist of:
- SCAT-Detention Center - Monday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Bylas GED - Tuesday/Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- San Carlos (Education Dept) - Wednesday/Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Testing arrangements shall be scheduled for students who successfully pass the GED pre-test
- Testing of the State GED Test shall be completed primarily at Globe Unified High School, or, if need be, where immediate openings is available
- Transportation services shall be provided to the testing center upon request
Awards:
- Testing fees are paid on behalf of the Adult Education Program for all students
- Incentives will be awarded to enrolled tribal members only of the San Carlos Apache Tribe enrolled for the fiscal year under the Adult Education Program and shall consist of:
- Successfully passed students: $100 incentive plus *1 semester tuition and book expenses will be given as an scholarship for successfully passing the State GED Test
*Student must apply for FAFSA as award will be based upon need
580+ averaged successfully passed students: $100 incentive plus *2 semesters tuition and book expenses will be given as an scholarship for successfully passing the State GED Test upon meeting the following criteria:- Must show “Satisfactory Completed” classes upon conclusion of the semester
- Must maintain a 2.00 GPA for continued incentive to be awarded
